The best crypto news sites in 2026, on our five-point score, are CoinDesk, The Block and CryptoSlate, with BeInCrypto and Unchained close behind. CoinDesk also drew the most measured visits of any crypto-native outlet: 2.90 million in September 2026. We scored 14 top crypto news sites on traffic, published policies, paid-content labels, disclosed ownership and original research.
Checked on 23 October 2026: traffic from Similarweb estimates for September 2026; policies, owners and paid-content labels from each outlet’s own pages.
- CoinDesk led crypto-native outlets with 2.90 million visits in September 2026, down from 3.73 million in July, per Similarweb.
- 13 of the 14 sites ran paid press releases or sponsored posts next to their reporting; only Protos says it accepts no compensation for content.
- 4 of the 14 do not name their owner anywhere on the site, including Cointelegraph and U.Today.
- Cryptonews fell from 1.83 million visits in July to 378,353 in September 2026, a drop of 79.3% in two months.
- Cointelegraph had more than 12 million monthly visits in December 2024 and just above 700,000 by September 2026, per Similarweb data cited by CoinDesk.
- Bitcoin Magazine’s parent was bought by a listed bitcoin treasury firm in February 2026, and Blockworks closed its newsroom.
How we ranked the 14 best blockchain news sites
Each site earned up to one point on five checks, for a maximum score of 5. We started from the outlets that Google and Bing showed for queries about sites for crypto news on 23 October 2026, removed price aggregators and list pages of top blockchain news sites, and kept 14 crypto news websites that publish their own reporting. None of the 14 is NFT-only, so apply the same checks to top NFT news sites and NFT news sources. Bloomberg and Reuters were measured as mainstream benchmarks, not ranked, and lists of the best blockchain news sites or top crypto news sources rarely apply such checks.
- Measured traffic: 1 point above 1 million Similarweb visits in September 2026, half a point between 300,000 and 1 million
- Published policies: 1 point for both an editorial policy and a corrections policy, half for one
- Paid-content labels: 1 point when sponsored posts and press releases carry a label above the headline, a non-staff byline and nofollow or sponsored links
- Ownership: 1 point when the site itself names the company that owns it
- Original reporting or research: 1 point for a research or data desk, half for reporting without one
Traffic estimates for the biggest crypto news sites are modelled, not audited: Semrush put CoinDesk at 4.3 million visits for September 2026, against 2.90 million from Similarweb. When we compared supplier media kits with Similarweb in August 2026, supplier figures ran roughly double our readings: USA Today was quoted at 215 million visits against 105 million measured.

Best crypto news sites at a glance
The table ranks the best crypto news websites by score, then by September 2026 traffic. “Labelled” means the site marks paid posts on the page itself; “partly” means the label exists but a staff or house byline, a followed sponsor link or a vague word weakens it. Owners are taken from each site’s own pages or from primary announcements.

The mainstream benchmarks dwarf even the most popular crypto news sites: Similarweb estimated 68.8 million visits for Reuters and 34.8 million for Bloomberg in September 2026. Both put much of their coverage behind a sign-in or paywall.

Top crypto news websites, ranked one by one
1. CoinDesk: best site for crypto news on regulation
CoinDesk is the top website for crypto news in our score because it names its owner, publishes an ethics policy with corrections rules, and runs a research and indices desk. Its September 2026 traffic was 2.90 million visits, 50.2% from the US, per Similarweb. The weakness: sponsored posts carry the byline “By CoinDesk”, and staff may receive equity in Bullish, the exchange group that owns it.
2. The Block: best news source for cryptocurrency institutions
The Block is the best news source for crypto readers who want deal, funding and market-structure reporting backed by a data product. Paid posts are labelled and use sponsored links; in June 2025 one labelled sponsored post promoted Foresight Ventures, its own majority investor. Traffic fell from 1.23 million visits in July to 708,623 in September 2026. Foresight added $10 million in April 2026, but The Block publishes no standalone corrections policy.
3. CryptoSlate: best cryptocurrency news website for project data
CryptoSlate publishes an editorial policy updated in August 2026 and labels press releases twice, with a “Press Release” kicker and a “Sponsored PR” tag, using sponsored and nofollow links. It also keeps a coin and company directory, which makes it the best altcoin news site here for project data. The weakness is traffic: 368,627 visits in September 2026, down from 528,668 in July. It discloses past funding from BTSE, a crypto exchange.
4. BeInCrypto: best news site for cryptocurrency in many languages
BeInCrypto drew 1.12 million visits in September 2026 and launched a research product, BeInCrypto Intelligence, in 2026. It publishes a verification methodology and an advertising disclosure rather than a classic editorial policy. The weakness: one paid exchange release in October 2026 carried a staff editor’s byline, while other releases are signed “Advertorial”.
5. Unchained: best for interviews and podcasts
Unchained, run by journalist Laura Shin, is a podcast network first and a website second, which explains its small web audience of 25,154 visits in September 2026. It publishes policies that include corrections and a trading policy for staff. Paid posts sit under a “Paid Content” banner above the headline. Note that unchained.com is a different company; the media site is unchainedcrypto.com.
6. U.Today: best website for cryptocurrency news headlines
U.Today grew faster than any site on this list, from 609,496 visits in July to 1.41 million in September 2026. Paid posts are bylined “Advertorial” under a Sponsored section. The weakness: its editorial policy says it does not accept payments to promote projects, yet sells sponsored posts, and the site names only an advertising company in Dubai, not an owner.
7. Decrypt: best for explainers, culture and AI
Decrypt is the strongest of the general sites for beginners, and its traffic rose to 849,260 visits in September 2026. It sits under the parent company Dastan, which also owns a prediction market. The weakness: it has no standalone editorial policy, only a short corrections statement, and its press releases are marked by a footer disclaimer rather than a label above the headline.
8. Cointelegraph: best website for crypto news volume
Cointelegraph covers more beats than most of the top sites for crypto news and labels paid posts clearly, with sponsored links and an editorial policy updated in April 2026. Similarweb put it at 760,119 visits in September 2026, and CoinDesk reported on 7 October 2026 that it had more than 12 million visits in December 2024, that an October 2025 Google penalty cut organic traffic by 80%, and that it sought a buyer. Cointelegraph replied that it is not for sale.
9. Cryptonews: best site for cryptocurrency news and guides
Cryptonews publishes editorial guidelines and runs in 10 languages, and its About page states it has been a Clickout Media subsidiary since 2022. Its traffic is the steepest fall on this list: 1.83 million visits in July, 378,353 in September 2026. Press releases moved to an “advertorial” subdomain with a disclaimer, but their links use a “ugc” tag rather than nofollow or sponsored.
10. Bitcoin Magazine: best for Bitcoin-only coverage
Bitcoin Magazine, first published in 2012, is the oldest crypto news source here and covers only Bitcoin. Its parent BTC Inc was acquired by Nakamoto Inc., a listed bitcoin treasury company, in a deal completed on 20 February 2026. Traffic was 225,367 visits in September 2026. The weakness: press releases carry the byline “By Bitcoin Magazine”.
11. The Defiant: best for DeFi coverage
The Defiant, founded by Camila Russo in 2019, stays focused on decentralized finance and publishes its standards and corrections on its About page. It drew 108,381 visits in September 2026. The weakness is labelling: sponsored posts say “Presented by” a sponsor, the word “sponsored” never appears, and they sit in normal news URLs.
12. CoinGape: best for price coverage with an Indian audience
CoinGape publishes an editorial policy, a conflict-of-interest page and a corrections section, and 45.4% of its 429,574 September visits came from India. Paid releases end with a paid-partnership disclaimer and sponsored links. The weakness: those releases carry the managing editor’s byline, and the site does not name the company that owns it.
13. crypto.news: best for daily news and price predictions
crypto.news, launched in 2015 as BTCManager, publishes its standards and corrections approach on its About page and drew 312,472 visits in September 2026. Sponsored posts carry a “Sponsored” tag and a third-party disclosure. The weakness: the site calls itself privately owned in the UAE without naming the company, and its sponsored links are tagged inconsistently.
14. Protos: best for investigations
Protos is the only blockchain news website here whose masthead says it does not accept compensation or sponsorships for any content, and we found no paid section. It names Protos Media Inc in its terms. The weaknesses are a small audience of 56,100 visits in September 2026 and no published editorial or corrections policy page.
How to tell reporting from paid content
Thirteen of the 14 best crypto news sites in this ranking publish paid press releases or sponsored posts on the same domain as their reporting, so on any cryptocurrency news site the label is the only reliable signal. Even with the best news sources for crypto, read the label above the headline, then the byline, then the last paragraph. If any sign below appears, treat the piece as an advertisement.
- A “Press Release”, “Sponsored”, “Advertorial” or “Paid Content” label above or beside the headline
- A byline from a wire such as Chainwire, the word “Advertorial”, or the outlet’s own house name instead of a reporter
- A footer disclaimer saying the content was provided by a third party or a commercial partner
- A URL path containing /press-releases/, /sponsored/ or an “advertorial” subdomain
- Token sale dates, bonus codes or “buy now” calls to action, which reporters rarely write
House bylines are the weak spot. CoinDesk signs sponsored posts “By CoinDesk”, Bitcoin Magazine signs press releases “By Bitcoin Magazine”, and CoinGape uses its managing editor’s name. In each case the label exists, but the byline vouches for the text. Ownership matters in the same way: 4 of the 14 sites never say who owns them.
Which crypto news sites accept press releases
Most of the best news sites for crypto accept paid press releases, usually through a wire partner, but a placement there is advertising, not coverage. Protos accepts none, and we found no crypto releases in the Bloomberg or Reuters feeds. Our outlet list shows where we place announcements and which outlets accept organic articles.
Links are the part most suppliers misstate. In our study of crypto PR outlets, only 30 of 195 press release outlets passed a followed link, while 82 of 106 outlets that accept organic articles did. Before buying distribution, compare crypto press release agencies on that point, or pitch the news to a journalist if it stands on its own.
Flexe.io has placed announcements since 2018 across 800+ crypto, finance, business and iGaming outlets, 290+ of them with DR 60+ and over 100K monthly visits. Send your news to Flexe.io on Telegram: within 24 hours we return a free media plan showing which of these outlets fit the story, which accept releases and which pass a followed link.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the most trusted cryptocurrency news site?
On our five checks, CoinDesk scores highest: it names its owner, publishes ethics and corrections rules, runs a research desk and had the most measured visits, 2.90 million in September 2026. Trust still depends on the story. CoinDesk discloses that its owner, Bullish, runs an exchange, so read its coverage of Bullish with that conflict in mind.
What are the most reliable crypto news sources?
The best crypto news sources publish who owns them, how they correct errors and how they label paid posts. Among the best blockchain news sources we ranked, CoinDesk, The Block and CryptoSlate meet most of those tests. For primary facts, the best news sources for cryptocurrency are the originals: exchange announcements, regulator filings and on-chain data confirm what a headline only reports, especially on listings, hacks and enforcement actions.
What is the best crypto news aggregator or app?
We ranked websites, not apps. Most outlets above publish newsletters, and several readers in 2025 and 2026 Reddit threads said they follow X and crypto news aggregators instead of one app. If you pick the best crypto news aggregator you can find, apply the same label checks, because aggregated feeds often mix press releases with reporting.
Which website is best for crypto analysis?
For research rather than headlines, The Block and CoinDesk run dedicated data and research desks, and BeInCrypto added a research product in 2026. For DeFi, The Defiant covers protocols in depth; for Bitcoin only, Bitcoin Magazine. Remember that even the best site for crypto news is not investment advice, and price predictions are among the most criticised formats in reader threads.
Are crypto news sites paid to publish articles?
Many are, for marked content. In our sample, 13 of 14 crypto news sites ran paid press releases or sponsored posts next to their reporting. A paid placement should carry a label such as “Press Release” or “Sponsored” above the headline and a non-staff byline. Editorial coverage that a project pays for without any label breaks most outlets’ own published policies.
How can you spot a sponsored crypto article?
Check four places: the label above the headline, the byline, the footer and the URL. Words such as “Sponsored”, “Advertorial” or “Paid Content”, a wire byline such as Chainwire, a third-party disclaimer at the end, or a /press-releases/ path all mark advertising. Token sale dates and bonus codes in the text are another strong signal.
